General NEUKASIL RTV is the designation for Room Temperature Vulcanizing 2-component silicone rubber systems basing on reactive silicone polymers, partly with special fillers. All NEUKASIL RTV types are combinations the basis of which is formed by the typical silicon oxygen skeleton. They are divided up into two different groups, the group of the addition- crosslinking and the group of the condensation-crosslinking silicones. Addition-crosslinking silicones combine with the crosslinker without a cleavage product being produced. These silicones can thus also be processed in closed moulds. The curing time can be shortened by increasing the temperature. These systems, however, are relatively sensitive to inhibition of the crosslinking, also called poisoning. The products made from addition-crosslinking silicones are generally non-toxic. Altropol has marked these systems with an even initial number, the crosslinkers with the letter A. Condensation-crosslinking silicones react on the crosslinker under separation of a reaction product. This is generally a short-warp alcohol which evaporates from the system during the reaction. Therefore, condensation- crosslinking silicones are not suitable for the use in closed moulds. However, they have in so far an advantage over the addition-crosslinking silicones as they are to a large extent insensitive to poisonings. The initial number of these systems is odd; the crosslinkers are marked with the letter C. |
